David Foley came through the Pools academy system and became the youngest ever player to play for Hartlepool United when he made his debut aged just 16. Foley failed to break into the first team but regularly featured as a substitute.
He featured in over half the games in the 2006/07 season and even more the season after. Often playing on the wing instead of his natural position up front he had the unwanted record of never scoring a league goal in his 6-and-a-half seasons of professional football with the club.
Cup competitions was where Foley shone, scoring 7 times, including a spectacular goal against Premier League side Stoke in the FA Cup. After struggling to break into the first team, his contract with the club was cancelled in February 2010 after he agreed a deal to join the Puerto Rico Islanders.
