Ali Gibb finally joined Pools in August 2006 after the Football League transfer Embargo was finally lifter, Gibb started his first 9 matches before losing his place to James Brown. Gibb largely played as a substitute after this, being brought on to slow the game down and protect a lead.

Gibb joined Pools after being released by Bristol Rovers where he played 70 games in two seasons. He started his career at Norwich City before moving to Northampton Town on loan in 1995, the move was made permanent in the summer of 1996 for 30,000. Gibb made 282 appearances for the Cobblers before joining Stockport for 50,000 in February 2000. He played in over 150 games for Stockport before joining Bristol Rovers.

Ali joined Notts County on loan during the 2008 January transfer window, although the move was initially for a month the deal was extended until the end of the season. Gibb was released by Pools in May 2008 and announced his retirement a month later.

"Ali Gibb failed to impress during his stay at Victoria Park. His greatest quality is his fantastic cross but his reluctance to take defenders meant it wasn't shown enough. Danny Wilson attempted to convert him to right back but he lacked the positional sense and tackling ability to play there."
