Mick Wadsworth pulled off a major coup when he snapped up veteran midfielder Nolberto Solano in May 2011.

A club legend at Newcastle United, the right winger spent a total of 8 seasons at St James' Park over two spells and has also played for West Ham and Aston Villa in his long career which saw him capped 95 times for his native Peru.

Solano joined Pools from Championship side Hull City and he rejected a new deal at the KC Stadium to make the switch to Pools, Solano later stating his close friendship with Pools boss Mick Wadsworth was the reason for his return to the North East.

Solano made an immediate impact at the club, grabbing the winning goal at Bournemouth with a stunning free-kick. However, the departure of Wadsworth and arrival of Neale Cooper saw Solano completely frozen out of the first team picture. He left the club at the end of the season.
