Loan
Real Zaragoza, Liverpool, Accrington Stanley (loan)
Godwin Antwi joined Pools from Liverpool in June 2007 in a season long loan deal to gain first team experience. He returned to his parent club after one season with Pools where he made 33 starts and 1 substitute appearance scoring 1 league goal.
The Defender was born in Ghana but moved to Spain when he was 14 and joined Real Zagaroza. Antwi was tracked by Liverpool while he was in Spain and Rafael Benítez signed him in August 2005. In his first season at Anfield he featured reguarly in the reserve team and helped Liverpool win the 2006 FA Youth Cup, beating Manchester City in the final.
In November 2006 Antwi was called to the Spanish Under-19 team, he is eligible to play for them having gained a Spanish passport while at Zagaroza. He did not feature in a competitive fixture and is still eligible to play for another national team.
In the 2006/07 season Antwi was named captain of the Liverpool Reserve team at just 18 years old. He was loaned out to League Two side Accrington Stanley in March to gain first team experience and played against Pools when the two sides met at Victoria Park.
"Godwin Antwi posesses all the atributes needed to be a top class defender; he is a tall player with good heading skills, a great tackle and has a lot of pace. Sadly he seems to either be fantastic or awful, lacking the concentration to keep going for a full 90 minutes."
