After a season in which Pools failed miserably in front of goal, Chris Turner took the punt of snapping up Irish Striker Roy O'Donovan from neighbours Sunderland.

The pacy striker who began his career at Cork caught the watching eye of then Sunderland boss, Roy Keane during a pre-season friendly. After a glittering goal scoring record of 31 goals in 74 games, he made the 500,000 move to the Stadium Of Light, after rejecting a move to Londoners Fulham.

O'Donovan however, like many others, were left in the cold once brought to Sunderland. Keane - who has a habit of buying a tonne of players for one position, gave O'Donovan a couple of games to prove his mark, but wasn't prepared to be patient with the ex U21 Ireland international.

After being shipped out on loan around the country, to Dundee United - where he partnered ex-Poolie Jon Daly, he then swapped the east coast for the west coast, by teaming up with Blackpool. Both unsuccessful loan spells left him fighting for a return in the Black Cats squad.

In February of 2010, Pools took the striker on trial. Chris Turner only needed a few days to make up his mind, and days later he clinched a move to the Vic on loan for the remainder of the season.

He made his debut in the thumping 4-1 win over Carlisle and grabbed his first goals for the club as his hat-trick beat Southend a few days later. He went on to score 9 times in his 15 games for the club, helping Pools stave off the threat of relegation.
