Hartlepool completed the signing of Joe Gamble on the 4th of January, Pools had been tracking the player for some time and he had spent time on trial with the club before the move was made permanent.

He started his career as a youngster at Cork City before making the move to England with Reading in 2001, it didn't work out for Gamble and, after a short spell at Barnet, he returned to Ireland with his native Cork.

He went on to achieve great things with Cork as they won the League of Ireland in 2005 and he was called up to the Irish national side in 2006, making his debut in 2007.

He added an FAI Cup winners medal to his collection in 2007 and then the Setanta Sports Cup a year later. However, with Cork suffering financial difficulties he was told he could leave the club at the end of 2009 and Pools soon snapped up their man. He made his first team debut in the home game with MK Dons on January 16th.
