Matty Robson

June 2003

Pen Pic

Matty Robson broke into the Pools first team after impressing in the HUFC youth team and began his career in stunning fashion as he scored against Peterborough on his debut in 2003. Robson featured in 17 games in his first season as Neale Cooper looked to fill the problematic Left Back position.

Matty has gone on to make 70 appearances for Hartlepool in the Left Back and Left Midfield positions but has never featured regularly, despite this he won the Supporters' Young Player of the Season for the 2005/06 season. Robson started the 2006/07 season playing in every match but the found himself left out of the first team squad and made just 3 appearances in Pools last 29 games.

Robson improved significantly in the next seasons but has found his chances limited due to Andy Monkhouse's good performances. He received and extended run in the winter of 2008 after a loss of form by Monkhouse but soon lost his place once more. Robson rejected Hartlepool's offer of a new contract in May 2009 and left the club.

"Matty Robson is an attacking minded left footer who has played at left back and as a left winger, his defensive skills aren't the best and he needs an older head to keep a look out for him however he has a wicked left foot and can hit a ball with some speed."
