After the administrators walked into the Stockport, Hartlepool took advantage of County's money troubles by snapping up McSweeney. A right midfielder, who can also play at right back, became Chris Turner's second signing of the summer and will fill the right wing berth.

Born in Cork, he moved to Leicester aged just 18, but despite being a highly rated prospect soon dropped down the leagues. Scarborough was the destination after his release from Filbert Street before he spent time at Hucknall Town, Hednesford and Ilkeston Town, He then moved back to Ireland to team up with his old team; Cork City.

After holding down a first team spot, and impressing in the Intertoto Cup, he was soon snapped up by Stockport and he spent two successful years at Edgeley Park before making the switch to Pools.
