Andy Monkhouse initially joined Pools on loan in November 2006 from Swindon Town as manager Danny Wilson restructured the left hand side of the team, Monkhouse made an immediate impact scoring 3 goals in his first 8 appearances and Wilson looked to sign him permanently.

Monkhouse began his career at Rotherham United as a youngster where he played 128 times before joining Swindon Town in July 2006. Monkey transferred permanently in January 2007 and even scored the winning goal against former side Swindon Town when the teams met in February. Monkhouse's consistent performances meant he was picked in the PFA League Two Team of the Year.

Despite losing his place in the side to Matty Robson during the 2008/09 season, he regained the left midfield spot and grabbed 8 goals over the season. Monkhouse signed a new deal at Victoria Park in May 2009 and continued his fine run of form, scoring 8 times in the first half of the new season.
