Hartlepool 0-1 Southend (League 2)

Hartlepool

Referee:

A defeat at the Vic on Easter Monday, when Southend beat us, was a setback in the Hartlepool bid to stay in League 2 but it's still in our own hands.

This one-nil defeat, a first in six-matches, against promotion chasing Southend was a 'setback' as said but far from a terminal one - how we react will tell us plenty though!

Southend had chances to take the lead but it wasn't until early in the second half that Atkinson (53) was able to beat Flinders to break the deadlock.

We almost got a late equalised, which our pressure saw us pushing for, but Jones was denied when his volley hit the underside of the crossbar but didn't go in.

Defeat didn't cost us a place back in the bottom two, we remain one-point outside of the drop zone but know we need to swiftly get back on track!
