Monkhouse Returns To Haunt Swindon

A second half strike from Andy Monkhouse earned a point for Hartlepool at Swindon.

Report

Andy Monkhouse return to the County Ground to haunt his former club Swindon as a second half equaliser denied the Robins the chance to go top of the table.

Simon Ferry gave the home side the lead after 15 minutes as he and Gary Roberts capitalised on a mistake by Sam Collins.

Scott Flinders was the hero for much of the game as he prevented the hosts from extending their league on multiple occasions.

And Paulo Di Canio's Swindon were left kicking themselves as Monkhouse grabbed an equaliser with 15 minutes remaining to earn Pools an impressive point.

However, results elsewhere mean that Pools are actually further away from safety than they were at the start of the day. The gap between Pools and 20th place is now a whopping 12 points.

Enjoy the Indian summer and this nice little run, as it is clear even after a run of 7 points from 3 games, we are now further away then we was before the game, and we just after except we will be playing league 1 next season.

Agree with ya Spain, I think it's gonna be a very tall order for us to stay up but the last few performances have been a huge improvement even if we're now having to rely on the teams above us slipping up as well as winning our own games (which makes the increased gap after a good result like that ultra frustrating). Still, beat Pompey on Tuesday night and we're off the bottom of the table which'd be a start at least. Ha'way the lads.

There are 16 games to go - we need to win 4 games more than the teams above us - obviously when you need to overtake someone they have to drop enough points for you to do it but it's far from impossible - which is not to say that it is highly likely but you never know.
