Hartlepool Turkeys Bring No Christmas Cheer

Hartlepool United brought fans little in the way of Christmas cheer after yet another defeat at Carlisle.

Report

Manager John Hughes largely kept faith with the same side went down meekly at MK Dons 11 days ago with only one change made to his starting line-up as Peter Hartley replaced the suspended Jack Baldwin.

Pools hit the bar early on in the game through Jonathan Franks but were a goal down midway through the half when former Poolie Matty Robson's effort took a deflection off Sam Collins and into the goal.

Robson had a field day against the awful Pools defence and added a second before the half hour mark after tapping in Lee Miller's cross.

The hosts capped an easy victory off in the second half as Miller nodded home a Robson cross to seal the Cumbrians' first win in over a month.

Hartlepool remain without a win since September and now face a daunting trip to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United on Saturday.

Can't see anything changing, and what the hell has Hughes brought to the team since he was appointed, nothing, ok we sometimes in ages seem to pass it better, whoope. 1 point is his return in 8 games, joke...we missed the boat when we turned bron down, Hughes just other yes man for ken, to go along with kens mates Barron a humps.

I think whether Brown or Hughes or whoever had got the job we'd still be struggling - quite honestly I think even Mourinho or Ferguson would have trouble winning any games with the circumstances we've got at the moment. I'm prepared to give Hughes the benefit of the doubt - we need to remember he's working with a squad and coaching team he's inherited off his predecessor which is patently not up to the job. I've already written this season off as a relegation one ages ago - the big test for Hughes will come in the summer when he needs to do two things. Firstly, show Micky and Ritchie the door and bring his own coaching team in - they've been good servants to the club but if we're gonna make a new start we need to change everything around here and cut all ties with the past few years of underachievement. That extends to the players as well - the second thing Hughes needs to do is release every single senior player who's out of contract (and if anyone's daft enough to want any of the ones still under contract we should cut our losses and get rid as well). Realistically, none of them have done anything to prove to me this season that they're worth keeping at the club any longer than we have to. Thirdly, we need to get players in who aren't 19 and 20 year old cast-offs from our bigger neighbours - what we need are a few seasoned campaigners in their mid to late 20s who can scrap their way out of Division 4 and give this side the fight it's seriously lacking at the moment. Will Hughes have the cojones to do all this? No idea but if he doesn't then I'm afraid we're looking at a return to the bad old days of the mid-'90s (or pre-1991) when finishing 17th in the bottom flight was generally regarded as a decent achievement at this club.

Can any one see where the next point comes from let alone the next win fabulous support at Carlisle deserved better than this shambles I fear for us at sheff utd on Saturday it could be embarressing I look around at the whole set up at pools and I worry for the future of the club the next three years could see us become a laughing stock as no overhaul of this team will happen and we lurch from one disaster to another

I always say keep the faith !!!! But im afraid the players we have are just not good enough and should seriously take a good look at themselves and pack the job in - the old story goes if you cant do the job you get sacked or chased away you cant train a monkey who has no talent.

Agree with all of you, but I remember what Hughes said when appointed, he said...I was told what the situation was at the club, I was told who I had to work with, and I'm happy with that..... So to me no chance of Barron a humps going, it's clear he was told who he had to work with. All so lets not forget, pools have made it clear, there is no money, a will be no extra money, and going down means less money coming in, so lets forget about a big turnover of players...
