Another Defeat Leaves Hartlepool Cut Adrift

The gap between Hartlepool and the rest of the division continues to widen after defeat at Yeovil.

Report

Caretaker manager Micky Barron stuck with the same team that lost against Tranmere on Wednesday night and they achieved the same result at Yeovil this afternoon.

With the game barely underway, the home side took a seventh minute lead as Joe Edwards put the ball past Scott Flinders.

Barron's men failed to register a single shot on target until well into the second half when Marek Stech tipped James Poole's drive over the bar before Peter Hartley and Sam Collins wasted good chances.

Pools had the ball in the net midway through the half but Antony Sweeney's goal was chalked off for offside, at the other end Flinders had to be in good form to deny Edwards, Paddy Madden and Daniel Johnson after the keeper had spilled a cross.

The game ended in defeat for Pools and with Bury and Scunthorpe both recording wins, Pools ended the afternoon six points adrift of the rest of the division.

Coventry, positioned directly above the drop zone and visitors to Victoria Park next weekend, now have over twice as many points as hapless Hartlepool.

its a joke now, its like the players have said so what, were down and ill be gone at the end of the season at the same time hodcroft has got take a good look at him self, he doesn't come out of this smelling of roses..3 weeks to appoint a new manager, were not in a position were we have nothing to play for...at the same time this has been on the card for 3 years, keeping the same players, no major investment in the team, the likes of humps and barron been allowed to hang around, despite it clear to everyone there not good enough,

Well said Leeds, it about time Hodcroft and IOR took responsibility for their FAILURE to manage the present situation. Their mismanagement of the club of the past three years has directly led to the present disastrous situation. Successive 'manager/coaches/caretakers' have done everything they possibly can to extract the best out of these players can but the bottom line is that they are simply not good enough. For me the biggest of IOR's many failures is their steadfast refusal to pay the going rate for a proven L1 goalscorer to replace Joel Porter - its nothing short of a crime to ask any manager to go for so long without someone capable of putting the ball in the net - at any level. As for the current posistioin and I'm simply not having the 'well thats the way they operate' excuse for the ridiculous 3 week delay in appointing a manager. Would they react this slowly in bringing in a senior engineer/technician to deal with a crisis? If so I'm surprised that they are still in business. What a shower.
