Blades Grab Late Winner, Pools Now Winless In 6

Hartlepool United extended their winless run to six matches, despite posting a much improved performance against Sheffield United.

Report

Neale Cooper made a trio of changes for the visit of promotion favourites Sheffield United as Darren Holden, James Poole and Andy Monkhouse came into the starting line up.

It was a confident performance by Pools but that counted for little as Dave Kitson headed the Blades in front after less than half an hour.

Pools continued to battle and got their just rewards with 12 minutes of the game left when Steve Howard converted a Jonathan Franks ball to grab the equaliser.

However there was late heartbreak for the home side when Paul Gallagher fired home with seconds of the game remaining to snatch an undeserved win for Danny Wilson's men.

The fact that Pool came close to and seem to have deserved at least a point against Sheff Utd surely represents progress - admittedly from a low point.
