Old Boy Matty Robson Returns To Haunt Hartlepool

A late second half collapse saw Hartlepool United old boy Matty Robson grab the winner against his former club.

Report

Buoyed by the home win against Scunthorpe last weekend, Hartlepool manager Neale Cooper selected an unchanged side to face Carlisle at Victoria Park.

Loan signing Craig Lynch took his place amongst the substitutes and saw his new team mates take control of the early stages.

Pools created plenty of chances throughout the half but didn't get their breakthrough until just before the half time break when James Poole burst into the box and finished well past Mark Gillespie.

Jake Jervis should have grabbed an equaliser within minutes of the second half starting when he rounded Scott Flinders but blasted his effort way over the bar.

Steve Howard nearly put Pools further in front but his effort hit the bar, and the home side were made to pay for spurning chances when Danny Cadamarteri grabbed an equaliser with 15 minutes left.

Things went from bad to worse for Pools when Neil Austin was dismissed for a second bookable offence after holding back an opponent.

Then, with less than five minutes left to go, Carlisle snatched a winner. Former Pools player Matty Robson found space in the area and fired a low effort past Flinders and into the corner.
