Report: First Win On The Board For Hartlepool

Hartlepool United grabbed their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Scunthorpe.

Neale Cooper dropped summer signing Simon Walton from the team as his side looked for their first win of the season, veteran Paul Murray replacing him in the centre of midfield.

New boy Jonathan Franks gave the home side the lead midway through the first half, smashing the ball past Sam Slocombe after good work from Evan Horwood.

Pools should have doubled their lead on 78 minutes when Iron midfielder Josh Walker gave away a penalty for deliberately palming away Antony Sweeney's goalbound header.

Walker received his matching orders for the incident, but Steve Howards subsequent penalty was well saved by Slocombe.

However, the incident didn't cost Pools as Luke James put the game to bed with an impressive strike with five minutes left on the clock.
