The next 2 weeks will see promotion and relegation issues finalised. For Pools I believe their fate, whether its FL safety or relegation, will be known come 5 o'clock on 22 April after the home game to Barnet.
Of the next 4 games a minimum return of two draws and a win are essential if they are to survive!

Guess it will all come down to whether, or not, the players have the "cojones" to grind out the results.

A three game unbeaten run , as long as they are 2 wins and a draw, should see us done. Beat Morecambe, draw with Carlisle and beat Orient.

Newport are away to Exeter and Plymouth in that spell. Guess it will come down to who is willing to put in most graft regardless of trust in the gaffer or those around them.

Feeling very nervous about our current situation. I think we are absolutely sleepwalking at the moment with a manager who seems more like a passenger than a leader. While I don't expect an individual to perform miracles I think we are no better than we were under Hignett and, without checking Jones and Hignett's records, I don't feel like we're collecting more points either.

We've got a lower wage bill though so I suppose you can judge him a success on that count at least.

Newport have a very, very nice run-in. They have one tough away game versus Plymouth next weekend (although Plymouth have been wobbly as hell recently) and the rest are against mid-table sides who will have eyes on the beach.

We're got Carlisle at home who we typically struggle against, Doncaster on the last day which I wouldn't expect to get anything from. That leaves us needing to beat either Cheltenham or Orient away from home, as well as getting something at home vs Barnet. A tough ask when you have the worst away record in the league.

Newport have all the momentum. There's no reason they can't win three from their last five. Which leaves us needing seven points to stay up. Where are they coming from?

I still believe that the next 3 games will seal our fate, we need 5 points to keep the pressure on Newport. Don't altogether agree with PooliePoolie that Newport have an easy run in, I doubt Yeovil will feel safe if they lose to Newport next weekend.

Keep the Faith

We just cant buy a win at the moment. Newport and Cheltenham are really showing some form. I cant help feeling we have flirted with relegation once too often.

We've now got to beat Carlisle AND Orient and get something out of the Cheltenham game. The momentum appears to be with Newport, we can't look at them we have to look to climb over Cheltenham.

Cant see us beating Carlisle. I know they are on a bad run but so are we. A draw at best but more likely a regulation 2-0 loss.

When you look at where we are now and compare to the last days of Hignett's reign both are very very similar.
In the 14 games leading up to Hignett's departure we won 3, drew 2 and lost 9 accruing a total of 11points from a possible 42.
In the 14 games Jones has been in charge we have won 3, drew 3 and lost 8 accruing a mere one point more, 12pts from a possible 42.

edit: in those 14 games under Hignett we scored 15 goals and conceded 25
in Jones' 14 games we have scored 15 times and conceded 24 times, scary!!!

Not sure how many places we fell in those final 14 games under Hignett, he left us in 18th spot. We have fallen 4 places under Jones, currently 22nd. Only two teams in the last 28/29 games have not made headway, Leyton Orient and Pools, Orient have fallen 3 places.
When Jones took the reigns the table looked like this..

18 Pools
19 Crewe
20 Accrington
21 Orient
22 Cheltenham
23 Notts County
24 Newport

In the times since then
Pools have gained 12 pts but dropped 4 places
Crewe have gained 20pts and moved up 2 places
Accrington have gained 22pts and moved up 8 places
Orient have only gained 7pts and dropped 3 places
Cheltenham gained 19pts moved up 1 place
Notts County have also gained 19pts and progressed 8 places
Newport have gained 20pts and moved up 1 place.

Only Orient have gathered a lesser number of points from those games but we've fallen the most number of places, every other side has shown progress, even if it's only one place.
Three points between Newport and us and as you rightly point out they have the momentum and their current form has all the markings of a 'great escape'.
If the writing is on the wall it's spelling out Hartlepool United and Leyton Orient.

It's far from over, well not that far really 5 games but we are third bottom and it's in our hands to shape our own destiny. Have we got the bottle for it?
We have to beat those around us, namely Cheltenham and Orient and a point from any of the other three games to drag somebody else into the fray or drag ourselves out of it.
