Sees Pools take on automatic promotion candidates Portsmouth at the NGP Stadium. Hopefully the 'joke' will prove to be on the away team and Pools will collect 3 points towards League survival.

Pools 1 Pompey 0

Louis Rooney to score a late winner after coming on from the bench.

Pools 0 Portsmouth 1. Pools play well but Pompey a big physical side just too much for Pools. Probably be unlucky etc.

Just looking on the BBC Football website says we didnt have a shot on target in the whole game. I know Thomas hit the post but for a team scrapping for survival it seems a bit poor but then I wasn't at the match. Looking forward to reading the posts of those who were.

Newport won again. I must say I am starting to get worried.

Where do we start? Well even before we start we have to look at ourselves, Jones has to take a long hard look at himself and ask does he really want to be here?

Massive difference between him and Ronnie Moore. I'm not convinced Ronnie really wanted to be here but he definitely wanted to make a go of it while he was here. I am convinced Jones doesn't want to be here.
How did he convince me? Well he introduced Richardson into the fray, and the kid did a very good job. How was he repaid? By being dropped to the bench, particularly pertinent today.

What the hell was, firstly Richardson doing on the bench? Deverdics doing at left back? left back friggin laughable. Donnelly at right back, Amond up front on his own?
Jones is obviously just trying to piss as many people off as is possible, Amond on his own as a target man, Donnelly when there were two better options available, Richardson the better option on the bench, for crying out loud. Deverdics as has already been said at left back, give me strength. Nobody knew what the hell was going on today.

We might yet end up reaching the giddy heights of third bottom come the end of the season, but if we do it will be despite Jones not because of him. We are poor no doubt but does Jones makes us any richer or is he taking us backwards?

Well! That didn't go according to (my) plan!!

The next 3 matches will define Pools' season - as I mentioned in an earlier thread I believe the games against Carlisle and Orient will prove crucial to our survival, however, I now think that a failure to obtain a result, win or draw, at Morecambe next weekend will determine the likelihood of our survival, or otherwise, in the Football League.
Fortunately Morecambe appear to be in freefall, no doubt brought on by off-field issues, so there is every possibility that Pools can take advantage.

KEEP THE FAITH

Dunno about you but I gave up counting chickens some time ago. Pools always find a way to screw up. I am just hoping Newport start losing again, that is our best best.

Think it will pan out a bit like this.....

Pools should get another 7 pts and end up with 48pts
Cheltenham could get another 4 (guess where they get the 3 from?) and finish on 46pts
Leyton Orient could get 3 more to finish on 45pts and
Newport will fair quit well but it's too late 7pts and end up on 43, potentially they could be the traditional 'late burst' and get 10pts finishing on 46 in total.

we should be safe but absolutely anything is possible under the current regime.

The problem with football is you just never really can tell because the there are so many variables. Players falling out with manager/fans, some teams "wanting it more" against mid table teams with nowt to play for, injuries, sendings off, loss of form, sheet refereeing(I still remember Colchester away when they got a penalty against us when the foul was about a yard outside the box). I really hope you are right in your predictions, Billy but until we are mathematically safe I won't be enjoying my Saturdays.

For what its worth, I think if we lose to Morcambe we don't deserve to be in the Football league next season.

Totally agree. Morecambe have lost seven on the bounce, with both Newport and Cheltenham beating them in that run. If they whip us we should know where we stand.
Similarly Orient, out of the last nine have lost 8 and won one, losing the last 5 on the spin. Lose to these two sides, no disrespect to them it's just how they are at the moment, and we really deserve everything that is coming to us.

We can get out of it but not convinced Jones knows exactly what he's doing
