Transfer Window

My understanding is that once the January window closes, Tuesday/Wednesday next week, then clubs are not permitted to sign any further players, permanently or on loan, until the season end.
What this will mean for Pools is that, as appears likely, we will have to get by with those players (and there are plenty of them , 29 apparently) currently at the club, notwithstanding that there may be one or two departures before the window closes. Will they prove to be adequate, I guess we will find out in the coming weeks?

Yeah. That's correct. The players we have at close of play on Tuesday are all we have until May.

Remember we have lost two first team players this window in the shape of Toto and Carroll. Whether you liked them or not they are two players who have walked straight into a side in the division above and one much higher up our league.

You only have to look at our bench to see that we are really lacking. The lad from Fulham looks promising but the other two are kids who you wouldn't expect to play regularly.

As it stands we are ending the window weaker than we started it. Even if we do sign Michael bloody Chopra.

The window closes at 23:00 tomorrow, Tuesday, as it stands Pools have just over 24 hours to reshape the squad for the remaining 18 league games.
Whilst the existing squad is large, due to questionable policy in the past, much of it lacks experience or pedigree (Pollock, Wise, Assenso, Nearney, Rodney, Orrell, Smith, Green, etc. are yet to feature!); surely Jones didn't agree to take over without assurances that he could make a signing or two

Well another one gone, Laurent to Wigan, undisclosed fee according to official site.

edit: not one of my favourite players but had lots of energy and willing to give it a go.

Window slams shut and we've shipped out three first team regulars and replaced them with a bunch of kids on loan.

Laurent blew hot and cold for me. Maybe he'll come good at a higher level because he was too weak and brushed off the ball at this level.

That said, we've pocketed three transfer fees and not spent a penny. No doubt tomorrow we'll hear how we couldn't get any deals done or that stuff fell through.

Even the best that so far, so downbeat Jones could muster about the quality of our new striker was that "that is where this Club is at this moment in time."

Plus what looks like an admission that he's not seen him play.

That and Cheltenham picked up a massive away win.

We're in trouble. On and off the field.

Next thing to look forward to is the High Court appearance on February 6. When are we actually going to start putting pressure on the club to come clean and admit we're in quite a lot of trouble?

Plus Yeovil got a massive confidence boost prior to their visit to the Vic and moved themselves out of striking distance of us.

We've probably done some good business, if the money is going toward paying the bills.

At least we haven't sold our striker who even though in double figures can't get in Jones' eleven. Where the hell do we find these people? The ego has landed!!!

Wasn't the Transfer Window we were all hoping for, failed to sign either Messi or Ronald! However, with the exception of not bringing in an experienced hard tackling central midfielder, perhaps the business done isn't too bad.
We obtained transfer fees , a decent one allegedly for Laurent, for the three players who left (players who the terrace experts had already deemed too poor to pull on a Pools shirt), have added some pace and energy to the forwards, and a more solid performer at left back.
We already have a surfeit of centre backs, Harrison, Bates, Jones, Wise, Pollock, Assensso, plus Donnelly and Featherstone who can fill in if required.

Just have to hope Dave Jones and his backroom staff can mould the players into an effective unit to gain enough points to guarantee survival. Vital that we start to show some consistency to obtain positive results, starting with a win on Saturday.
C'mon Pools!! (We've done it before, adversity brings out the best in Poolies)

I wish I could share you optimism on the centre back situation. Harrison's return to form is one of the few bright spots from this season. Bates looks steady but is always am injury risk while Jones is a total crock and will likely be pensioned off come May.

Don't think the other three have a single first team appearance between them?

Makes you wonder why we've had strikers training with us and we're signing more on loan when you could argue in Amond, Paynter and Oates we've actually got a bit of depth to the squad in that area.

Quite right Poolie. More strikers who will no doubt spend most of their time on the bench. The defence is shipping goals for fun and would benefit from the protection of a hard barsteward midfielder.

Would not be surprised if Rooney started against Yeovil, would have to be alongside Amond surely? We should at least have one striker on the pitch.

Think we, or some of us, agree that midfield is the problem area. Featherstone OR Woods for me, not together. Hawkins looks like he needs a rest. Obviously Laurent has gone leaving us with similar type players mentally, physically and technically. In this area we are many in number but few in technical differences. Walker is probably the only unknown quantity saying that Deverdics has not had his chance.

Looking forward to Saturday's formation and player selection already. If Jones selected the eleven for the last two games, as he indicated in the local papers, it's gonna be fun on Saturday.

Featherstone and Hawkins are the pick of our midfielders, and that's including the now departed Laurent.

Only problem is we lack that creative spark when they play together. Woods has had enough goes for me and fails to make an impact. Walker is probably worth another (probably final) throw of the dice.

Actually thinking about it we almost have a full team of just strikers; Amond, Paynter, Oates, Allesandrea, Jake Orrell, Andrew Nelson, Connor Smith, Devante Rodney, Louis Rooney.

Nine strikers for a team that has played a one striker formation for most of the season. Unreal.
