Surely it is an unchanged side again for tonights game. I have to say I am really happy that we have moved away from the back 3, even last year I wasnt keen but could understand why we played it that formation.

I just think most footballers are far more comfortable in a back 4 and more importantly I think it gives us a more attacking out look... not keen on a flat 2 up top these days either... as most teams do play with 3 centre mids.

More importantly... will Captain Marvel continue his goal streak?

Absolutely anything can happen tonight, rainfall all morning and doesn't look like easing up this afternoon, making for a greasy surface and an interesting game.

Another win albeit only a 1-0 but that makes four wins on the bounce. Well done the lads.

Agreed, by no means a convincing win this evening - in fact Newport were the better side for most of the first half but just like Saturday the Pools goal changed everything - a resounding finish by Fenwick who was unlucky to be subbed when there were other more likely candidates for the hook. An impressive cameo from his replacement young Oates though. So far so good then with the lads performing way above my expectations - but we've not yet played anyone of note as yet so, although I'm well happy with progress, Im not getting carried away with unachievable expectations in these embryonic stages of the 2015-16 campaign.

Newport were one of the poorest sides I've seen in a long while. Did they complete a pass of more than 5 yards all night? We were shocking first half, bit of spark at the start of the second and then just soaked up the pressure afterwards.

Oates looks good from the bench. Top strike from Fenwick but I do think it was telling that he scored a stunner the first time he was allowed to venture into the middle of the pitch. Playing out wide is not his game.

Lets be honest the sign of a good side is being able to grind out a win even when you are not playing at your best.
try to just enjoy the moment.

Brilliant Crimdon... My thoughts exactly... When was the last time we won 4 on the bounce? Great start, great effort and desire to find a way to win even on a bad night. Saw Burton. Few times last season they were never impressive but always seemed to grind out a result.

Not suggesting we will get promoted or anything but it's a far better characteristic to be crap and win, than be crap, heartless and gutless and lose.

So take a minute and enjoy

Or, take a minute and think about how when we really click we could be a really top side. I was saying last night how the way we're playing, we have been trying nice fast football and it just hasn't quite been coming off.

I can honestly see it all coming together one week and us beating someone by four or five goals.

Hartlepool v Newport, August 18th 2015 by Billy Zinc.

The unexpected (for me anyway) winning run goes on, but unfortunately not the good weather.

After a season where pools were "Looking for a Hero" a third one emerges, true Scott Fenwick did net a couple last season, but never one so classy as the one he scored tonight. Like Paynter's goal last Saturday at York, it was an unstoppable screamer.

Oh I agree PP... just didn't want to be to optimistic as you get laughed off the board. haha.

I think the fact that we haven't played amazing yet but have played really well for large periods shows there is more to come... the thing I am loving is how many chances we are creating... Bings is had more 1 on 1s with keepers this season than any other striker has in 2 years and the season is only 4 games old.

For too many seasons we have just not looked like scoring regularly where this season all 4 strikers look exciting and dangerous... even if/when 1 or 2 go off the boil we have depth, that will hopefully get us through... 3 out of 4 strikers off the mark... and the 4th a young lad has impressed of the bench... and again has been getting in good positions. It really is exciting stuff.

Being optimistic is acceptable Owen, being plain silly i.e. talking of automatic promotion at this early stage as some fans are, is not. I agree that there is plenty of room for optimism at present the side is playing really well in all-too brief periods of the games but some reservation is in order too as, apart from the win over Fleetwood, we have yet to meet a genuine top 10 L2 contenders.

However if we can continue this good start run and secure results against Sheringham's Stevenage and the 'Shaggers then there will be grounds to believe that a play-off push can finally be achieved. I don't agree that we have sufficient strength in depth to mount a realistic challenge just yet, although I feel sure that RM will be working on that.

Don't think anyone has mentioned promotion without it being a little tongue in cheek... but hey-ho... I dont think it is an unrealistic thought given the start. Yes way to early to say... the fact is teams at this level changes squads to regularly... and players are so inconsistent that anything can happen year on year.

I guess it depends on what your expectations are of depth.

We have 2 centre backs injured and our first choice keeper and we have still kept 3 clean sheets (with a 4th choice centre back in at least of those clean sheets).

Up front we actually have 4 strikers competition for places and scoring... we have Walker and Smith barely getting a sniff of game time and we still have Ebby and Kudus waiting to make an impact. Granted some of those are a bit raw.

But all of that is a far stronger squad than we have had in the last 3/4 years. Can I ask what would constitute a strong squad for you? Just curious what you think?

OK Owen we could do with cover or a permanent signing at c/b - RM has wasted no time in signing up Boyce so thankfully he clearly doesn't see Bates as even a temporary solution for that position. We also need f/b cover as Duckie has blown hot and cold and although I've been impressed with Carroll I think we'd struggle if either or God forbid both were injured. And I still think we need a decent winger to provide a different option as sometimes play is funnelled down the middle with the midfielders and strikers alike visibly looking in vain for options out wide. RM doesn't appear to be too keen to throw either Ebby or Kudus into the fray so why not send them out on loan in order to secure match practice and introduce a loanee who can readily make a difference?
Although it pains me to say this I thought even Franks might have opened up play a little the other night.

The CB issue, is only a temporary issue for me once Worley, Harrison and Jones are all fit... then I think Bates supplies good enough cover at CB. (assuming we keep the flat back 4)

FBs we do have Richards, Dan Jones who can play Right and Left back respectively. Don't forget Magney can play across the back 4.

I agree, I would like to see a winger come in who can really command a place and like Oates put pressure on those front 3. After that, with Magney looking like the missing piece in midfield I'd be happy with that squad overall... obviously there could always be improvements but from where we were 3/4 months ago... to where we are it is a huge improvement. I look at the starting 11 and think, yea that can win a game or at least put up a fight... even with so many injuries and I look at he bench Ebbs, Kudus, Walker, Smith, Oates... all of them on their day could make a difference.
