Congratulations to the lads. Sounds like a hard fought win against a time from a higher division. Only concern is Paynter going off injured: hope he is Ok. Two wins two clean sheets happy days!!!!

Yes, an impressive win against moneybags Fleetwood who are competing way above their station - but only thanks to their millionaire backer - which makes knocking them out of the MMouse cup all the sweeter. Well done lads you are already exceeding my expectations. Lets hope they keep it up and that BP recovers in time for Saturday's cruncher. Thoughts go to RM's daughter who is suffering from pneumonia - apparently Ron had to miss tonight's game in order to be with her in Spain.

Wasn't at the game... bit of a hard task when you don't finish work till 8 and live in Nottingham.

Anyway, again sounds like all the right things are there for an exciting season. Even if we aren't always solid at the back... even against L1 opposition we kept a clean sheet and sounded dangerous going forward... racked up on twitter at least 5 other chances. Woods/Featherstone both having good efforts saved. Fenwick sounded like he should have scored but was denied by a good save and another chance where a heavy touch spurned his chance, Bingham also had a chance to wrap things up.

The most positive thing for me so far, granted it is only two games is that the players seem to care... they seem like they want to win, want to play for the club... the passion/desire is brilliant and can make all the difference in L2.

Midtable is still an entirely achievable goal, without a doubt... but I am hoping for more

Very good display against a team who I thought were quite a good side. Again we rode our luck but we got the result.

I've put a few more thoughts up here: https://thoughtsfromthemillhouseterrace.wordpress.com/2015/08/12/tho...

That can be a good thing long-term... sometimes the best sides just find away... often said you make your own luck as well. With the effort and heart displayed maybe that pulled us through.

I am encouraged because I can only see this side getting better as a unit, especially the back 3/4... so hopefully even with a few blips that are inevitable we will have a successful season.

I was also not at the game but some things struck me from reports. It seems like we took a bit of a battering at times in both games so far but our supposedly dodgy defence stood firm and our forwards have the pace to cause real problems coming out. Ronnie wasn't present at Fleetwood (best wishes to his daughter by the way) but Sam and the team did the job. If Bill Paynter keeps this up I think you'd have to say it would be one of the best pieces of man-management seen at Pools since Cloughie.

The thing I like about Big Billy is that he's playing like he's got a point to prove. He looks far from finished to me and I'm pretty hopeful he can get those 12 goals we talked about on here.

I think we should be looking at 30+ goals from Bingham, Fenwick and Billy. I am hoping the three of them will break 40 if i'm brutally honest but if they do hit those numbers then by far our most prolific front line in some years... that would be more than half our tally from last season from just 3 players.

Stand in manager Sam Collins has said he was thrilled to see Hartlepool take Capital One Cup victory over Fleetwood in midweek.

With it being announced ahead of the game that manager Ronnie Moore has flown to Spain to be with his family after his daughter was taken ill, Collins gave his midweek summation following our one nil first round victory.
