Firstly I should confess that due to work I wasn't at Tuesday's game against Scunthorpe; and nor shall I be at tomorrow's game.
Nevertheless I anticipate a much improved Pools on display against The Heed, or else I fear that the euphoria of avoiding relegation, coupled with squad rebuilding, will vanish before the season starts in earnest.

Perhaps Ronnie needs to utilise some of the vaunted squad versatility and consider a switch to a 4 4 2 formation

Was planning a dodge up but I've seen it's the Sunderland Airshow and Newcastle races is on so I can't be arsed being rammed on a Northern Rail tin can for an hour either way.

Plus the defeat on Tuesday has put me off. First time I see us will be the opening day, where I don't expect to be thumped 4-0.

Dunno what's happening with Gateshead at the minute. The chairman with the millions has gone and Mills has left for Wrexham with Malcolm Crosby now in charge. They've also appointed Stephen Pears as keeper coach. I don't expect to see them set the division alight this year.

Full time, we got pumped again. 5-3 final score. Bingham hat trick for us.

Hmmn, another 5 goals conceded by the new look defence! Doesn't bode well for the forthcoming season.

On the positive side at least we (Bingham) managed to score a couple in reply.

Awww come on. Every one is being so bloody apathetic. 5 -3 against non league oppo is just plain awful, pre season or not. I'm starting the backlash! Ditch the awful 352. On a brighter note, welcome back to Woods and well done to Bingham.

We have brought in LI players that other teams didn't want because we have limited budget. Unless they become very well organised and put in a tremendous amount of effort we will struggle. I am realistic

I am realistic too bowls, steadfastly refusing to be carried away by the predictable pre-season hype, however even I thought that a mid-table may have been achievable. The events of the past seven days are making even such a mediocre target seem unattainable. Let's hope that RM has something left in his war chest with which to strengthen what appears to be a puny defensive line-up otherwise he may have to eclipse even last seasons miracle.

In my earlier post I meant L2 and conference players. We still need some quality players to bolster the average squad we have in place. One of RM earlier quotes he said he would not pay £1500 per week and was waiting for players to accept £800 per week and I am afraid we will not pick up quality players on those wages. With regard to the trialists I believe you do not need three to four games to make your mind up as quality will shine through. It is obvious they are of similar ilk to what we have now.

It'll be a little too premature to perhaps be worrying too much, but worrying a little is likely to be the case at Hartlepool following another shipping of a hatful of goals at Gateshead.

A heavy four-nil defeat at the Vic against Scunthorpe was followed up with another five shipped at Gateshead on Saturday, a Bingham hat-trick was obviously consolation for Pools but a five-three defeat at the International Stadium disappointing, even from a friendly.
