IOR, Berge Larsen and the ownership of HUFC

Just having a mooch around the HUFC website found it appears there have been some changes in the ownership structure in the last few months.

If you have a look on this page here: http://www.hartlepoolunited.co.uk/club/contact-directory/

It states:

Hartlepool United Football Club's ultimate parent company is Independent Oilfield Rentals IOR Limited, a company incorporated in the British Virgin Islands. The shareholders with a 10% or more interest in Independent Oilfield Rentals IOR Limited are K J Hodcroft (42.2%), M Piana (12.86%), C Burnett (13.86%) and M Shephard (10.89%).

Now this has changed since last time I saw the page, here's an archive screenshot of the website from Jul 17: http://web.archive.org/web/20140717073904/http://www.hartlepoolunit...

On that date it stated:

Hartlepool United Football Club's ultimate parent company is Independent Oilfield Rentals IOR Limited, a company incorporated in the British Virgin Islands. The shareholders with a 10% or more interest in Independent Oilfield Rentals IOR Limited are K J Hodcroft (46%) and B G Larsen (10%).

It is clear far less money is being pumped into the club than previously but I think this is the first time I've seen anything about the people behind the scenes changing in some way.

These may be minor changes but we know now that Ken owns slightly less of the IOR and thus the club than he did, as does Berge Larsen. Larsen may have dialed the number of shares he owns down slightly or got rid of the lot, we don't know as they're not required to detail anyone who owns below 10%.

Like with the whole IOR/DNO/LOG/Dove Energy thing it is all a complex web that's beyond my understanding. A quick google of M Piana and C Burnett doesn't return a great deal.

I've not seen this posted anywhere else so thought was worth listing and putting some dates to the info. If anyone can dig a bit better than I can I would be interested on their take/any further info.

Thanks for this, PP. Very interesting.

Seems Ken and Larsen are quietly divesting themselves of their share. Who knows who these other characters are, but it's probably safe to say it won't do anything for Pools.

I used to go to school with Dave Stubbs, the Hartlepool Council Chief Exec. and he's a rugby man. The Council Leader looks more like a ballet fan than interested in footy so the chance of support from that quarter looks a non-starter

Anyone got a few bob to invest?

To coin a phrase, I would trust a rattlesnake more.

However, at least we appear to have someone who we can trust on our side in the media, one Joe Allon who has been appointed as Sunday Sun's 'Football League' columnist and has already challenged 'The Invisible Chairman' Ken Hodcroft to answer 5 or 6 questions in respect of what IOR's strategy for the club is.

Best of British with that one Joe.

Possible Larsen has sold all his shares as he was the connection with the Norwegian players me thinks and probably the money man, don't think Hodcroft is a multi millionaire ?
Ken Hodcroft is Managing Director of Increased Oil Recovery Ltd, IOR, who I always thought owned HUFC,when did the owners change to Independent Oilfield Rentals ?

Well Larsen has had legal problems in recent times regarding fraud or the like, which is a probably a likely reason for his shares reducing or ceasing to exist any more.

Heard Larsen's legal situation being discussed at the Vic a few weeks back but since that story above was published it appears the case has been dropped: http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=no&u=http://www.ba...

I'm no longer or moderator of this site or have any influence over its content beyond my postings (and have not for some time) but I would say people should just think twice before they post anything on this matter that could be potentially misconstrued. We don't need any Poolies getting in trouble over any legal matters.

I would echo PP's thoughts, its probably safe enough to post links to factual information but best not to speculate or make public any assumptions that we may have in respect of issues such as this.

Sorry seaton I didn't have a link to Joe Allons article, I still actually buy the Sunday Sun - despite the fact that non-league clubs receive better coverage than Pools it is the only local rag published on a Sunday that pays more than lip service to our heroes. As far as I am aware Joe hasn't listed the questions that he would ask of Ken Hodcroft but I think we could guess what most of them would be as we would doubtless be making very similar enquiries.

Have you ever thought about including a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is important and everything. However just imagine if you added some great photos or video clips to give your posts more, "pop"! Your content is excellent but with images and clips, this blog could certainly be one of the very best in its niche. Good blog!
