Vital View - League 2, 29th April 2017

The League 2 season continued with the latest round of games played over the weekend.

Plymouth moved to the top of League 2 - they'll battle with Doncaster and Portsmouth next Saturday to be crowned Champions.

It looks as if Hartlepool will join Leyton Orient in dropping out of the Football League.

Here's a round-up of the League 2 action from the other games.

Results

Saturday 29th April 2017 - LEAGUE TWO
Accrington Stanley 1-4 Luton Town 15:00
Barnet 3-1 Grimsby Town 15:00
Cambridge United 2-0 Crawley Town 15:00
Carlisle United 2-1 Newport County 15:00
Cheltenham Town 1-0 Hartlepool United 15:00
Doncaster Rovers 1-3 Exeter City 15:00
Leyton Orient 1-3 Colchester United 15:00
Mansfield Town 0-1 Portsmouth 15:00
Morecambe 1-1 Wycombe Wanderers 15:00
Notts County 1-0 Blackpool 15:00
Plymouth Argyle 2-1 Crewe Alexandra 15:00
Yeovil Town 1-1 Stevenage 15:00

Accrington's bid for a remarkable turnaround from a side threatened with relegation to one finishing in the top-seven ended when Stanley were beaten in the visit of Luton - the Hatters', third, 4-1 win assured a play-off spot.

Barnet made it back-to-back wins with a 3-1 victory over Grimsby, which ended any slim hopes the Mariners had of finishing in the top-seven.

Cambridge's hopes of securing a play-off spot live on when the U's, ninth, beat struggling Crawley - who will remain in League 2 next season - 2-0 at the Abbey Stadium to remain a point off Blackpool, seventh.

A first Carlisle win in five, as they beat Newport 2-1, took the Cumbrians unto a play-off spot leaving this in their own hands next weekend. The Exiles remain two points above second-bottom Hartlepool with survival in their own hands.

Cheltenham assured their League 2 safety whilst pushing Hartlepool closer to non-league. The Robins' 1-0 win means they'll stay in the Football League but a final day victory for Pools might not be enough to see them finish above Newport, 22nd.

The Doncaster winless run was extended to four when Donny, dropping to second behind Plymouth as a result, suffered a third straight defeat when Exeter, fifth, left the Keepmoat Stadium with a 3-1 win, which booked the Grecians' play-off place.

Already relegated Leyton Orient slipped to a 3-1 defeat in the visit of Colchester - a game delayed following a pitch invasion by Orient fans, eventually played to a conclusion behind closed doors. The U's, 10th, are a point off the play-offs.

Mansfield's play-off hopes were dealt a major blow when beaten 1-0 by Portsmouth. The 12th-placed Stags are two points off the top-seven with a game to play - Pompey, third, are two points off leaders Plymouth so will go into the final weekend in with a chance of winning the title.

A last minute equaliser denied Morecambe a victory over Wycombe, who stayed in the hunt for a top-seven finish after this 1-1 draw - the Chairboys, 11th, are a point off the play-offs.

Notts County's first win in four was a blow to Blackpool's promotion hopes as they ran out 1-0 winners at Meadow. However, Pools remain in the top seven but it's only goal difference keeping them above Stevenage, eighth with a game a to play.

A late Plymouth winner saw the Pilgrims come from a goal down to beat Crewe 2-1 at Home Park - this took them of League 2 and favourites to be crowned champions next weekend.

Yeovil were denied a second win in three when play-off chasing Stevenage rescued a point from a 1-1 draw at Huish Park. Boro, eighth, are behind Blackpool, seventh, on goal difference.
