Whitby & Spennymoor Update

Whitby & Spennymoor Update

Two more friendlies for Hartlepool United in recent days and we took a one all draw from Whitby, and victory over Spennymoor.

Beginning with the Whitby friendly, Hartlepool had to battle back from behind in the game and our leveller came through Rhys Oates' first strike for the club.

A scrappy opening ebbed and flowed both ways apparently as both sides struggling to keep possession and we're sloppy in play but hosts took the lead at The Turnbull Ground when we gave the ball away once more.

We could've equalised almost immediately though Rakish Bingham but he scrapped the post, and other chances did fall our way but we couldn't do enough with them.

The second half was the pick of the two as we looked better and were more purposeful in our play following changes and we again hit the wood work before Oates struck from a corner on 70 minutes.

First Half:

Bartlett, Magnay, Parnaby, Bell, Harrison, Nelson-Addy, Duckworth, Giles, Bingham, Paynter, Howes.

Second Half:

Denton, Richards, Bates, Green, Smith, Featherstone, Oyenuga, Walker, Carroll, Oates, Fenwick.

Attendance: 358.

Moving on to the Spennymoor trip, we extended our unbeaten run with a four nil victory at The Brewery Field.

Manager Ronnie Moore once again shuffled the pack to get match minutes into people and we could've taken the lead earlier than we did in the game with the chances that once more fell our way.

We did however break the deadlock on ten minutes as Bingham had two attempts to deliver the ball, and with the second he found Scott Fenwick who put the ball in the net. Further chances well our way but the first half was certainly competitive with strong challenges all over the park and if not tagged as a friendly the referee probably wouldn't have let go what he did during the game.

With changes again being made at the half time break, we were sluggish after the restart as we tried to find our feet again but we slowly came back into the game and got back on top and we hit our second of the day in the 65 minute as Fergus Bell fired home.

Connor Smith then added an individual effort to put the game beyond our hosts with 15 minutes remaining in the match and then Spennymoor probably had their best chances of the half but we held out.

Three minutes from time Jake Carroll made it four.

First Half:

Bartlett, Harrison, Magnay, Green, Duckworth, Walker, Nelson-Addy, Whittle, Giles, Bingham, Fenwick.

Second Half:

Denton, Richards, Bates, Jones, Oyenuga, Featherstone, Smith, Bell, Carroll, Paynter, Oates.

It's now onto our first Vic game of the summer as we host Scunthorpe United on Tuesday evening.
