I'm sure it's a line that's been used many times before in Tommy Miller's (and anyone else named Miller) career, and it'll be used again, but could he really make a playing return to the Vic?
Almost 17 years after he made his debut for Hartlepool and 13 years to the day just about since he left to sign for Ipswich, who had rejected him prior to our signing him on YTS forms the 35 year old is back.
Miller is only training with us at the moment but fits the category of an experienced midfielder that Coops is looking to sign, not being too much older than some other names mentioned and a few years younger than Michael Brown, one of the more favoured former Pools players to return.
This isn't the same player that left us all those years ago, his game has changed an adapted with his age so that free scoring midfield that we had, and was seen at his prime with Ipswich, has gone but he's still a player that has played at the highest level and has something to give.
I'm not ruling out his return to the Vic but I'm not entirely sure that this will happen.
There's now harm at all in inviting him along for training and if he's happy to do this it proves that he still has the motivation to play and doesn't feel he's too good to have to prove himself, which all suggests that he still has the desire to play on and would have something to pass onto the younger players.
This would include 24 year old Harrogate Town midfielder Michael Woods, who is also training with us.
Both should feature against Billingham Town tonight, as will Eugen Bopp and Biko Bradnock-Brennan as they continue to train with us and went to Spain with their trials ongoing.
