Shrewd Pools Signings

Shrewd Pools Signings

Coops turned to who he knew this week when he brought in two new signings for Hartlepool that he's had previous with, both will be good signings for us I'd say.

Matthew Bates was a player of interest for Coops last season but his former Middlesbrough teammate decided that he couldn't refuse Bradford's offer to play in League 1. He was signed this week though after contacting Coops following his release to see what he thought about working with him again.

I know we could have turned him away after he didn't sign last summer but that would have been a case of cutting off our nose to spite our face. He was brought in along with Stuart Parnaby, another with previous of playing alongside Coops at Middlesbrough, following his release by the Championship side.

If both can keep clear of previous injury problems, which they both have a history of suffering with, they'll do well for us I'm sure and think the experience they bring in will help the development of the younger players we keep seeing come through.

Trusting the judgement of Coops on these signing is something I would have done anyway but as I've seen what both are capable of from their time playing in the Premier League and Championship, as most of us would have, I'm even happier with their signings and even more so if injuries don't bite.
