Cooper - Mediocre Performance
Manager Colin Cooper has slammed the lack of energy and enthusiasm on show from the players in the defeat to Exeter yesterday.
A two nil loss on the final day of the season did not leave the gaffer happy, and he told the Official Site that if players performed like that for him again, they will struggle to get back in his starting XI.
'There were too many out there with an end of season mentality. All the words were said before the game - and not just by me, the players themselves - but the actions just weren't there.'
Cooper says that all season long, even when results haven't gone for us, he has seen energy, desire and urgency to at least try and do something in the match but he didn't see 'any of that' during the game.
'I think it's fair to say that this club has stalled for a number of seasons now and it's my job to try and stop that and find the answers. Next season can't be like this either for the players or me. I enjoy this job immensely but if we finish 19th in League Two next season then I won't be here - I'm aware of that.'
The gaffer goes on to say that he's already told the players this is the most important summer of their careers because he won't be accepting mediocrity when people return for pre season, and if anyone puts in a showing like that again that is so devoid of passion to win he will be making changes and the club will move forward without them.
