'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Coops - We Remain Completely Focused

Manager Colin Cooper has assured supporters that the team's focus has been as strong as ever despite the departure of assistant gaffer Craig Hignett.

Hignett left the club a few days ago to take up a similar position at former club Middlesbrough, and the gaffer has admitted that he's obviously disappointed with his departure and he will be a huge loss to us, but speaking to the Official Site he also explained that this was football, it happens, so people do just get on with it.

In his place Academy Manager John Hewitson has stepped up to first team duties and will be with the team as we travel for the game against Wycombe.

'We've got a busy week coming up and I won't let what's happened get in the way of that and neither will the players. The focus is 100% on our game and there will be no deviation from that - anyone saying anything different would be just making excuses.'

Cooper goes on to say that despite Craig leaving, the other staff at the club have been utterly fantastic, as he would expect, in terms of asking if they can help out with things, and taking on other duties in the meantime to make the loss and transition easier for him and the team and he says 'I wouldn't expect anything else because that's the kind of attitude everyone at this club has.'

Obviously outside of the game this weekend, we also now have an assistant manager search to handle, and the gaffer says he's in no rush because of the support of the team he has, but people have already been in contact with the club to express their interest in the role, and once the game is out of the way he'll start giving it some proper thought but he feels it'll probably be a week or two before any solid decisions are made, as obviously this is a crucial time of the season anyway so he can't afford to be overly distraction with other things anyway.
