Late, Late Baldwin Exit

Late, Late Baldwin Exit

In a stunning late development Hartlepool have lost the services of Jack Baldwin to Peterborough. The transfer window had closed and I was left happy enough that the rumour of interest in many of our young players passed without any of them going.

Then, it broke, it was confirmed that Baldwin had left to sign for the League 1 side.

Baldwin might have left just before the transfer deadline but from what Coops has told the official website the interest in him first came through earlier this week but he only went for talks with Peterborough today after he made it clear he wanted to talk with them.

'We didn't want to sell Jack but when the approach was made by Peterborough earlier this week he made it clear that it was an opportunity he was interested in.

'We have spent time trying to encourage him to stay but once his mind was made up to progress his career in League One, our job was to get the best possible deal for Hartlepool United.

'I spoke about it with the Chairman and the Chief Executive and we all agreed that the deal we've been able to finalise tonight after several days of negotiation was in the best financial and beneficial interests of the Football Club and the player.'

Baldwin has been great for Hartlepool since he came to the Vic in 2011 when he signed from Faversham after impressing during a trial and has been linked with a move for most of this month but I didn't think it was going to happen.

If we've got £500,000 for him then this is a good deal and was too good for us to refuse also taking into account that Baldwin had expressed a desire to leave as well.
