'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Paying The Price

We know that the jewels in the Hartlepool crown are being eyed up, and that's to be expected really isn't it!

However, no amount of scouts turning up to games and speculation linking players with a move away from Victoria Park will see this being the case unless those showing an interest "show us the money" as they'll not be getting anyone on the cheap.

Several players are being linked with other clubs, higher up the footballing pyramid, but Jack Baldwin in particular was sounded out at the weekend with Colin Cooper asking what he'd cost to one of those interested in him.

He answered: 'It'll cost you, a lot!'

Links with championship and premier league clubs can only benefit all concerned as the former Faversham Town man needs to keep playing well to maintain this interest, which if he does that's good for us as it means we reap the benefits of this and it also adds to his value all the time.

Cooper feels, and I'd agree, that staying with us is the best thing for him at the moment but concedes he couldn't refuse him a premier league move if it became a possibility, not that he expects anyone to be opening their cheque book to fill out the amount he'd cost....

Adding: 'It's a big shot in the arm for Jack that people are watching. It's lovely as a manager to get that recognition to know the players are doing well.

'I think we have to do what's best for the player and for the club, but if a Premier League club came knocking on the door for Jack Baldwin, I don't think I could turn that dream down, but we'd do it on the right terms.

'As it stands at the moment I'd be surprised if there's people out there willing to open their cheque books.'

Sunderland's apparent interest was already known, however championship trio Middleborough, Huddersfield and Blackburn have also been attributed with showing an interest in the defender.
