Micky Barron Nets Winner As Pools Beat Consett

Hartlepool Reserves boss Micky Barron came off the bench as an emergency sub to grab the winner in a friendly against Consett this afternoon.

With much of Pools's first team squad used against Sunderland last night, Barron named himself among the substitutes for the game against the Northern League side this afternoon.

Former striker Michael Mackay lined up for Consett against a Pools side that featured Nathan Luscombe, Darren Holden, Jordan Richards and trialist goalkeeper Adam McHugh.

Colin Larkin, released by Pools in the summer, also started the game as he continues his search for a new club.

Pools had the first chance of the game when Kerry Hedley forced a good save from the Consett goalkeeper Peter Jameson after a good ball from Holden slid him in.

Still goalless at the break, it was Hedley who continued to look like Pools' best chance for a goal, forcing another pair of saves at the start of the second half.

Barron replaced Greg Rutherford with around a quarter of an hour remaining and became an unlikely match-winner as he grabbed a goal by lifting the ball past Jameson in the home goal.

FT: Consett 0 Hartlepool Reserves 1

Hartlepool: McHugh, Richards, Holden, Wright, Tuck, Rowbotham, Hedley, Hawkins, Larkin, Rutherford, Luscombe

Consett: Jameson, Bell, Davidson, Cuthbertson, Pearson, Piecha, Ross, Smith, Teasdale, Mackay, Callen.
