Trialist Adjei Scores As Pools Reserves Beat Hull

Goals from trialist Samuel Adjei and defender Paul Johnson sealed a good win for Hartlepool Reserves at Hull this evening.

There were early chances for Pools when Paul Johnson nodded a header over the bar before goalkeeper Andy Rafferty was forced into a good save to deny Richard Garcia.

It was Hull who continued to have the better chances through the first half with Dougie Wilson hitting the post beofre Jay Simpson's effort was smothered by Rafferty.

There was a delayed start to the second half after a floodlight failure at North Ferriby, but once the game resumed it was Pools who were quickest to make an impact as they took the lead within five minutes of the restart. A Pools corner forced a goalmouth scramble and Samuel Adjei reacted fastest to grab the opener.

Youngster Greg Rutherford should have done better when he found himself unmarked in the area following Josh Rowbotham's cross, but the midfielder blazed over from close range.

But the away side's lead was doubled soon after when a Nathan Luscombe corner was met by captain Johnson who headed home past Mark Oxley in the Hull goal.

With Pools now in charge, the game could have been over as a contest when good play from Adjei saw substitute Steven Snaith through on goal with just the keeper to beat, but the young striker's effort ended up way over the bar.

Despite another floodlight failure towards the end of the second half, Pools held on to take the three points at leapfrog the Tigers in the Central League table and move up to third.
