Hartlepool Reserves Pick Up Point Against Hull

Hartlepool Reserves v Hull Reserves
Report from Bedford Terrace

A second half strike from Callum Hassan sealed a hard earned point for Hartlepool Reserves against Hull at Billingham this afternoon.

Adam Boyd, Steve Haslam and Nathan Luscombe were the only first team contenders to feature in a youthful Pools side which fell behind early on after a spell of pressure from Hull.

A good run by the Tigers winger Cameron Stewart allowed him to whip the ball into the area where the unfortunate Jordon Mellish turned past his own keeper. The visitors spent much of the rest of the half on top, but unable to extend their lead after a series of misses.

At the other end the lively Steven Snaith was unlucky to send a header wide while a cheeky lob from Adam Boyd landed on the roof of the net. Jack Baldwin, operating in the centre of midfield, also saw a speculative effort fly over the top of the bar as Pools pressed for an equaliser.

Into the second half and the substitution of Boyd allowed Callum Hassan, who had previously been positioned on the right, to take a more central role and he grabbed the equaliser on the hour mark.

Another long range effort from the impressive Baldwin was parried by Hull keeper Rob Peet straight into the path of Hassan who calmly slotted home to level the scores with a real poacher's goal.

There were further chances for the home side as Pools enjoyed a much more fruitful second half, Nathan Luscombe firing an effort over the bar from a good position and the pacy Snaith continuing to cause the Championship side problems.

Ultimately both teams had to settle for a point, probably the fairest result but both sides will look back at missed opportunities to win the game.
