'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Stelling Hoping For Stress Free Season

Hartlepool United fan and TV broadcaster Jeff Stelling has admitted that he hopes Pools will serve up a more relaxed season next year.

Hartlepool kick of their fourth successive League One campaign - a club record - against Rochdale on August 7th, who themselves have broke a record of leaving League Two after more than thirty years. Stelling believes the key to a successful season will be the form and fitness of James Brown.

''It`s two seasons in a row we`ve gone to the last day of the season and survived. I`m just praying it`s not going to happen again! If James Brown can stay fit this season and we get off to a good start, hopefully we`ll do a little better than the last couple of seasons.''

Pools finished a place above the drop zone last year - despite having three points chalked off their tally, and some fans turned on Chris Turner, but Stelling has called for patience. ''I understand the supporters` attitude to Chris Turner and I understand their frustrations.'' He told the Sunday Sun

''I think first of all they have to understand what Chris has done for us in the past. They have to remember the sort of teams we`re up against and last season we were playing Leeds, Norwich, Southampton, Huddersfield - all the biggest clubs every week''

The JS quote (if he actually said it) in the last paragraph is really very irritating isn't it? Having paid good money and spent much time watching unacceptable performances this season, supporters really don't need to be told by a non-attender that we should be grateful for what CT has done in the past. Are we really expected to swallow the 'explanation' that this whole fiasco of a season can be explained by the fact that there were a few teams in the league better than we are?

For the last two seasons there has been 19 teams better than us,not all of them were BIG clubs.

Exactly. That's one of the things I was trying to say!

That Stelling never could get facts right - although he thinks he can
