Monkey Insists Celebration Was 'Bit Of Banter'

Andy Monkhouse was on target yesterday for Pools against his club, but then sparked outrage by celebrating in front of the Swindon faithful.

''As far as I was concerned, it was simply a bit of banter. I simply pointed to the name on the back of my shirt when I scored.'' Monkhouse admitted after the game.

The lively winger scored when Pools beat the Robins back in League Two, on his first return to the County Ground, and seems now to of made a habit of scoring against his old club.

''It was the second time I had been back to the County Ground in three seasons and the second time that I'd scored.''

Danny Wilson brought Monkhouse to Pools on loan from Swindon in 2006 before his move was made permanent but Monky admits he didn't want to leave. '' I didn't want to leave Swindon three years ago, but managers come and go and moving clubs is all part and parcel of a footballer's life.''

He lacks a bit of common sense and may regret that booking for being so silly. Good luck 'Pool for the rest of the season till we meet again.
